Minister T.M. Anbarasan’s remarks about young women and voting preferences have triggered controversy after a speech at a DMK-led alliance meeting in the Sriperumbudur constituency.
Speaking at a gathering of party and alliance functionaries in Kundrathur’s Poonthandalam panchayat, Anbarasan said young women were showing “desire for an actor,” adding that he could not name the actor openly and warning that votes could shift.
He said the party had appointed 10 women at the booth level and instructed them to visit households in the morning and evening, meet women voters specifically, and highlight achievements for women under the DMK government while seeking votes.
The minister also directed booth committee members not to leave their areas and asked youth members to focus on meeting young voters. He cautioned that poor vote performance would not be tolerated and said those who did not work for the party would not be considered for councillor posts in the local body elections expected in six months.
