Election flying squad teams, along with Income Tax (IT) officials, conducted searches on premises linked to film producer and former DMK executive Jafar Sadiq in Chennai on April 6.
Sadiq was earlier arrested in a narcotics trafficking case, with allegations of smuggling drugs worth over Rs 2,000 crore from multiple countries including Australia. He was lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail and is currently out on bail.
Sources said the searches were carried out at five locations in Chennai, including the JSM hostel. The operation was also aimed at checking whether cash had been hoarded for distribution to voters, the sources added.
