Chennai: The Tamil Nadu BJP has reinstated several party functionaries who were earlier removed for alleged anti-party activities, as the Assembly election campaign gets underway.
Among them is A.N. Prasad, who previously served as the party’s spokesperson. He was removed last month after he publicly urged that the TVK should join the BJP-led alliance, even as state BJP president Nainar Nagendran maintained that no alliance talks were held with TVK.
Nainar Nagendran has now said Prasad’s removal is being revoked after Prasad expressed willingness to campaign in support of BJP candidates and submitted an apology letter.
Prasad, however, contested that account. He said the official announcement claimed he would be given responsibilities again because he had submitted an apology, but insisted he did not give any apology letter to the party president and said the decision and the present announcement caused him further distress.
The party has also readmitted other removed office-bearers, including Chennai Siva, an organiser in the Central government welfare schemes wing, according to the report.
