TVK chief Velmurugan on Saturday said his alliance would withdraw its candidate from the Dharmapuri constituency if Soumya, wife of PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss, seeks their support.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting in Salem to introduce 40 alliance candidates, Velmurugan said he had exited the DMK-led alliance because he was “forced” to field a candidate against Soumya in Dharmapuri.
He noted that Soumya, through the Pasumai Thaayagam organisation, has been involved in environmental assistance and awareness initiatives. “If her side asks for support, we will withdraw our candidate from the constituency she is contesting,” he said.
Velmurugan also said his alliance would not contest against certain leaders in their constituencies, including Puthiya Tamizhagam leader Krishnasamy and Porkodi, wife of Bahujan Samaj Party leader Armstrong.
When reporters asked for evidence for his claim about being compelled to contest against Soumya, he said a senior DMK minister had stated this at the party headquarters, Anna Arivalayam, and claimed that Arul, who was present then, could testify to it.
