Chennai: Director General of Police Sandeep Rai Rathod has instructed police commissioners, zonal IGs and district SPs to follow only the orders issued by their direct superiors within the prescribed jurisdiction.
The direction was issued during an online review meeting held with senior police officers to assess election security arrangements across the state.
The DGP said the police must ensure strict compliance with the Model Code of Conduct throughout Tamil Nadu. He noted that VIP leaders are campaigning across the state and stressed that providing necessary security to them is a key responsibility.
He also cautioned that reports have emerged of some SPs acting on instructions from other officers. No one should engage in such practices, he said, adding that if any officer issues orders beyond their authority, the officers heading law-and-order and election monitoring duties should inform him.
