AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami (EPS) on Tuesday accused Chief Minister M.K. Stalin of being unconcerned about the public and focusing only on his family. He made the remarks while campaigning at the Gandhi Road Junction area in Chennai’s Velachery Assembly constituency.

EPS alleged that the prices of essential commodities have risen sharply during the DMK government and claimed that law and order in Tamil Nadu has “deteriorated completely”. He said narcotics and ganja sales were rampant from villages to cities, including in lanes and streets.

He further claimed the government was unable to control the drug trade, alleging that DMK functionaries were widely spoken of as supporting ganja sales. Referring to a former Director General of Police, EPS said multiple initiatives were announced to curb ganja, but he alleged they did not succeed.

Calling the DMK a “family rule”, EPS said there were “four power centres” — Stalin, Udhayanidhi Stalin, Durga Stalin and Sabareesan — and accused them of causing hardship to people. He said AIADMK would implement welfare promises for the poor and claimed that ganja would be eradicated within three months of the party returning to power, urging voters to support the party’s ‘Two Leaves’ symbol.
