Scrutiny of nomination papers filed for the Tamil Nadu Assembly election was held across the state on Monday. A total of 7,599 nominations had been submitted during the filing window that ran from March 30 to April 6.

The election is scheduled to be held on April 23. Scrutiny began at 11 am at election offices statewide, with candidates accompanied by party functionaries and lawyers.

The nomination of Chief Minister M K Stalin, contesting from Kolathur, was accepted. The papers of AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, contesting from Edappadi, were also cleared.

The Election Commission also announced acceptance of TVK leader Vijay’s nominations from Chennai Perambur and Tiruchirappalli East, and Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman’s nomination from Karaikudi.

As of 9.30 pm, the Election Commission said 4,472 nominations had been accepted. It added that 11 nominations had been withdrawn so far, and the deadline for withdrawals is up to Wednesday.
