Tehran reported that US forces carried out strikes on Iran’s Kharg Island, a major hub for crude oil exports, before the deadline set by US President Donald Trump expired.
According to the report, US and Israeli forces have been conducting attacks on Iran since February 28, with no end in sight. Iran has not agreed to Trump’s deadline to halt the war, and has responded by closing the Strait of Hormuz.
Trump had warned that Iran must come to an agreement by 8 pm, or face further strikes targeting infrastructure such as bridges and power stations. The attack on Kharg Island was reported even before that deadline elapsed.
Separately, an attack on power distribution lines in the Karaj area reportedly disrupted electricity supply. A railway bridge in Zanjan province was also said to have been hit.
In a statement, Trump said the night could mark the destruction of an entire civilization, though he said he did not want that outcome. He also claimed a “complete regime change” had occurred in Iran and suggested a dramatic shift could follow, calling it a pivotal moment in world history.
