MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Monday said the DMK’s announced Rs 8,000 coupon scheme has left its political opponents “shocked”, speaking in Chennai.
He said a series of initiatives by the DMK government—such as the women’s entitlement assistance, the “Vidiyal Payanam” travel scheme and the breakfast programme—have received a positive response among women. Vaiko also referred to the government providing Rs 5,000 by combining three months of women’s assistance with summer financial support.
Vaiko added that he is not in a position where he bargains for a specific number of seats, and said Tamil Nadu should not see a coalition government formed through such negotiations.
He also alleged that during the AIADMK regime, 13 people died in the Thoothukudi firing, and said people accuse former chief minister Edappadi K Palaniswami of ordering the firing.
Separately, Vaiko called for a new law mandating life imprisonment for offenders involved in crimes against women.
