Actor-politician Vijay, leader of TVK, campaigned on Tuesday in Tirunelveli and Thoothukudi as part of the Tamil Nadu Assembly election outreach. The roadshow was permitted with 51 strict conditions, and approval was obtained for a road journey of about 35 km.
During the campaign, Vijay stood atop the vehicle and greeted crowds gathered on both sides of the road, waving and folding his hands. A large number of supporters followed the campaign vehicle on two-wheelers, with several reportedly riding without helmets and raising slogans.
In the Thazhaiyoothu area, some of the bikes trailing the convoy were involved in a crash after colliding with vehicles ahead. The two-wheelers reportedly hit one another in quick succession, causing riders to fall on the road.
The incident reportedly left more than 10 people injured and triggered brief tension at the spot. Earlier, two other accidents were reported near the Thoothukudi airport as Vijay’s convoy was leaving, taking the total number of mishaps during the day’s campaign to four.
