Chennai saw a sharp fall in gold prices on Wednesday (April 9), with 22-carat jewellery gold dropping by Rs 1,600 per sovereign to Rs 1,12,000. The price per gram declined by Rs 200 to Rs 14,000.
Gold rates have been fluctuating in India in line with international trends. In Tamil Nadu, on April 7, jewellery gold was sold at Rs 13,860 per gram and Rs 1,10,880 per sovereign, while silver was priced at Rs 255 per gram.
On April 8, gold surged by Rs 340 per gram to Rs 14,200, and by Rs 2,720 per sovereign to Rs 1,13,600. Silver rose by Rs 10 per gram to Rs 265, and increased by Rs 10,000 per kg to Rs 2.65 lakh.
On April 9, silver also softened, slipping by Rs 5 per gram to Rs 260. The price per kg fell by Rs 5,000 to Rs 2.65 lakh.
