AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami (EPS) on Wednesday said the party has removed those who, in his words, created disturbances within the organisation. He made the remarks while campaigning in Pushpa Nagar near the Karumariamman temple in Chennai’s Thousand Lights Assembly segment.

Calling the election a fight to end “family rule” and “dynastic politics”, EPS took aim at Chief Minister M K Stalin over a reported remark about “sweeping away” EPS. He said AIADMK cadres could not be intimidated and asserted that even party workers could not be “touched”.

EPS alleged that after J Jayalalithaa’s death, attempts were made to weaken and split the AIADMK by creating a “B team”. He claimed those efforts were thwarted and said those he described as “betrayers” had been expelled, adding that the party was now “pure”.

He also rejected Stalin’s allegation that AIADMK copied the DMK’s election manifesto. EPS said AIADMK released its manifesto first and that the DMK brought out its document about 10 days later, accusing the ruling party of reversing the facts.

EPS further criticised the DMK government, alleging it had not fully implemented even schemes introduced during the AIADMK regime.
