Voting for the Assembly elections in Kerala, Puducherry and Assam began at 7 am on April 9, with polling scheduled to continue until 6 pm.
As of 3 pm, voter turnout was reported at 62.71% in Kerala, 72.40% in Puducherry and 75.91% in Assam.
In Puducherry, the Union Territory has 30 Assembly constituencies and a four-cornered contest involving the ruling alliance, the DMK–Congress alliance, actor Vijay’s TVK and Seeman’s NTK. The electorate is about 9.50 lakh, with 294 candidates in the fray.
Kerala has 140 constituencies and, following a special intensive revision of electoral rolls, about 2.71 crore voters. Over 32,000 polling booths have been set up, with additional security deployed at identified sensitive locations; 883 candidates are contesting.
Assam has 126 constituencies with around 2.50 crore voters, including 318 third-gender voters. A total of 31,490 polling stations have been arranged and security has been strengthened at sensitive booths; 722 candidates are in the race. Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged voters—especially youth and women across the three regions—to participate in large numbers.
