Police said the situation in Manipur has come under control after fresh violence erupted in Bishnupur district following a bomb attack that killed two children.

The incident occurred in the Moirang Tronglobi area, where a group suspected to be militants allegedly hurled explosives at a house. The children died and their mother was injured, triggering protests across parts of Imphal East and Imphal West demanding action against those responsible.

During attempts to disperse demonstrators, police used tear gas. Officials said police also opened fire on a crowd of around 400 people who had surrounded a CRPF camp, in which two more people were killed.

After further incidents including arson involving two oil tankers, attacks on temporary police camps and disruption of traffic, curfew was imposed in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching. With internet services suspended, no fresh violence was reported on Wednesday, and authorities said calm has returned despite lingering tension.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh held an all-party meeting to review the situation and condemned the attack, saying the investigation into the bomb incident would be handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
