Union Minister L Murugan has condemned what he described as a “cowardly” attack on Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) students in Chidambaram.
In a statement, Murugan said an ABVP public meeting titled “Students’ Voice: Voice for Change” was held to create awareness for 100% voter turnout. He alleged that members of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) entered the venue and carried out a violent assault on students.
Murugan said that in a democratic country, everyone has the right to express their views before the public. He claimed the incident showed a lack of faith in democracy.
He strongly condemned the attack and called on the police to immediately arrest those who carried it out.
