TIRUNELVELI: Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran on Wednesday said “no one knows” where the Congress party stands in the state, taking a swipe at the party during an election campaign in Tirunelveli.

Addressing voters while canvassing in support of the AIADMK candidate in the Tirunelveli constituency, Nagendran said he is contesting from Sattur and claimed that the work needed in Tirunelveli had already been completed, leaving “nothing to do” for the DMK candidate. He also described Tirunelveli as an AIADMK stronghold.

Nagendran credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi with providing Rs 14 lakh crore in financial assistance to Tamil Nadu and said the Centre has been implementing various schemes to improve infrastructure. He alleged that former DMK ministers, despite being in alliance with Congress, did not bring projects to the state.

Calling the Alangulam firing incident “regrettable” and “strongly condemnable”, he alleged that the police were unclear about what to do and that the Chief Minister did not know how to control law and order.

He further alleged that the government was functioning without restraint, claiming that those who speak “defamatorily” about the Prime Minister are not acted against, while critics of the Chief Minister are arrested. He also alleged that Kanyakumari Collector Azhagu Meena and the Sattur DSP were acting against his side.
