The Madras High Court on Tuesday declined to take up, as an urgent matter, a petition filed by the Ramadoss side seeking to freeze the PMK’s ‘mango’ election symbol until a civil dispute within the party is resolved.

The issue traces back to an earlier direction from the Supreme Court, which had asked the Chennai civil court to hear the matter and pass orders within three days. Acting on that, the civil court heard interim applications seeking to block the symbol.

However, the Chennai civil court dismissed the interim pleas, citing that election-related processes had already begun. It also advised the petitioners to approach the Election Commission regarding the symbol dispute.

Following this, an appeal was moved again before the Supreme Court, which directed the petitioners to approach the Madras High Court. When the matter was mentioned before Chief Justice S.A. Dharmadhikari and Justice G. Arul Murugan, the judges refused the request for urgent listing, stating the petition would not be taken up without being formally listed.
