A robot named ‘Nila’ has drawn attention at a polling station in Puducherry by welcoming voters with roses and politely guiding them to stand in line.

Polling began at 7 am amid a four-cornered contest in the Union Territory. At the V.O.C. Government Higher Secondary School polling booth, the robot—dressed with a dupatta and holding a tray filled with roses—greeted people arriving to vote.

In a video that has since gone viral, Nila can be heard speaking in both Tamil and English, greeting voters and requesting them to proceed calmly in the queue and keep their voter ID cards ready.

Robotics designer Kausik said the robot is intended to assist voters at the venue. He added that Nila can be controlled using their in-house software and can be made to speak in any language to provide help.
