NAGERCOIL: Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief coordinator Seeman on Wednesday said he would withdraw from elections if the BJP and the Congress could be shown to be genuinely concerned about the deterioration and possible disappearance of Tamil.
Speaking during his campaign in the Killiyoor constituency, Seeman referred to literacy levels in Kerala and Kanyakumari, and argued that despite being considered highly educated, the district had not produced the kind of new thinking and change he expected from an educated society.
He criticised the long-standing dominance of major parties in Tamil Nadu and questioned the role of national parties in the state. Seeman also suggested that states should be governed by leaders rooted in their own linguistic regions, and proposed a rotational model for governing India.
On fishermen’s issues, he blamed the Congress for the Katchatheevu decision and alleged that more than 800 fishermen had been shot after crossing borders. He asked why similar incidents did not occur with Kerala fishermen, and said a state government should be able to take strong diplomatic and trade measures if attacks continued.
Seeman also attacked what he called a culture of dependence on freebies, arguing that employment should replace short-term cash assistance. He said he wanted the chief minister’s post to implement changes, and reiterated his promise to develop Kanyakumari as a “fifth capital” with facilities comparable to Chennai, alongside Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli.
