DMK minister and Katpadi constituency candidate Duraimurugan visited a temple dedicated to former Chief Minister M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) at Thondanthulasi village near Katpadi in Vellore district on Tuesday night.
The temple was built by Murali, son of former AIADMK MLA Raghupathi. During the visit, Duraimurugan garlanded MGR’s statue and offered flowers as a mark of respect.
Speaking later, the minister recalled MGR’s widely known qualities, including generosity and a forgiving nature. He also said that despite being political rivals, MGR and former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi valued humanity and personal friendship.
The visit triggered fresh political discussion locally, with some viewing it as an attempt to appeal to AIADMK and MGR loyalist voters. AIADMK leaders also pointed to the close margin in the previous election, when their candidate Ramu lost to Duraimurugan by 746 votes, and said the contest remains intense this time as well.
