Prime Minister Narendra Modi, campaigning for the West Bengal Assembly elections, on Tuesday addressed a large public meeting in Haldia and announced six “guarantees” for the people of the state.
The West Bengal Assembly polls are scheduled to be held in two phases on April 23 and April 29. In his address, Modi said a BJP government would end what he described as the state’s “bad situation” and restore rule-based governance to rebuild public confidence.
He said the government machinery would be restructured to serve citizens, with an emphasis on transparency and accountability, adding that officials and those in power would be answerable to the public.
On law and order, Modi promised action in cases of crimes against women and said steps would be taken to ensure women can live safely. He also said all corruption during the Trinamool Congress regime would be investigated and that those involved—from ministers to lower-level staff—would be sent to jail.
Modi further said illegal infiltrators would be identified and deported, while refugees would be granted rights as per the Constitution. He also promised immediate implementation of the 7th Pay Commission recommendations for state government employees, adding an additional assurance that those who “looted” West Bengal through corruption would not be spared and would be brought before justice.
