MDMK general secretary Vaiko on Wednesday campaigned for the party’s Modakurichi candidate Senthilnathan in Erode district, addressing voters at the Ganapathipalayam junction.

In his speech, Vaiko accused the Modi-led Union government of weakening the 100-day rural employment scheme, and alleged that promises to increase workdays were misleading.

He also claimed the Election Commission had become an instrument of the Centre, and criticised the change of the Chief Secretary, calling the appointment biased.

Referring to Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks, Vaiko said that after Shah spoke about breaking the Dravidian movement in Tamil Nadu and BJP cadres applauded it, he decided to set aside differences and reach an understanding with Chief Minister M.K. Stalin to protect the Dravidian movement.

Vaiko added that he was not concerned about MDMK getting four seats, saying numbers were not the key issue and that he remained in the alliance to keep a promise.
