TVK leader Vijay campaigned in Sivaganga district’s Karaikudi on Thursday, holding a roadshow in support of the party’s constituency candidate, Dr Prabhu.
According to the report, Vijay left Madurai airport around 10.45 am in a campaign vehicle and reached the Karaikudi campaign point at about 2.34 pm. He paid respects at the Muthuramalinga Thevar statue and greeted the public for only a few minutes by waving from the vehicle before continuing towards Pudukkottai.
Crowds lined up from the district border at S.S. Kottai to Karaikudi to welcome him, many holding the party’s ‘whistle’ symbol. Vijay briefly rode a bicycle on College Road near the Income Tax stop. During the roadshow, Dr Prabhu presented him a picture of Pillayarpatti Karpaga Vinayagar, and at the Kovilur four-road junction, supporters offered a spear; the report also noted an unidentified object fell on Vijay’s head.
Police said extensive security arrangements were made, with about 850 personnel deployed under the Sivaganga Superintendent of Police. Supporters waiting for hours reported crowding and minor commotion, including an incident where a toddler reportedly fainted, and arguments broke out when police tried to clear people standing on a municipal office building.
Dr Prabhu later said the campaign slot was allotted only from 12.00 noon to 2.30 pm, but Vijay arrived around 2.38 pm and therefore left after waving without delivering a speech.
