Fisheries Minister Anitha Radhakrishnan on Thursday said actor-politician Vijay’s campaign meetings may attract large crowds of fans, but that would not necessarily translate into votes for his party.

Speaking to reporters after a DMK alliance cadre meeting held at Subramaniyapuram in the Srivaikuntam Assembly segment of Thoothukudi district, the minister remarked that “we are also Vijay fans,” while insisting that voters would ultimately choose their preferred political alliance at the ballot.

She claimed that in Tiruchendur constituency, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) candidate would lose the deposit. Anitha further alleged that Vijay was “like a candidate sent by the BJP” and accused him of attempting to split minority votes, adding that minorities would not be misled and would vote for the secular alliance.

Turning to AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami, she said he would not receive support from the Mukulathor community, alleging that he had betrayed them. She also said the BJP is in power at the Centre and claimed the film industry is under its control, accusing Vijay of targeting the DMK instead of speaking about his inability to release the film “Jananayagan.”
