The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday released its manifesto for the West Bengal Assembly elections at an event in Kolkata.
Senior BJP leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah unveiled the document, titled “Sankalp Patra”. The party said it would implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) within six months of coming to power.
Among the key promises, the BJP also announced a monthly assistance of Rs 3,000 for women who are heads of households.
West Bengal, currently governed by the Trinamool Congress under Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, will vote in two phases. Polling is scheduled for April 23 in 152 constituencies and April 29 in 142 constituencies, with counting on May 4.
Addressing the gathering, Shah said the manifesto reflects the aspirations of the people of West Bengal and criticised Banerjee’s 15-year rule, adding that the BJP would work to restore the state’s lost pride.
