Election flying squad officials in Dharmapuri district seized coupons and gift tokens from a DMK functionary in the Palacode Assembly constituency on Friday.
According to officials, K. Senthilkumar (45), a DMK Karimangalam central union coordinator, was found carrying 1,150 coupons valued at Rs 8,000 and 1,800 gift tokens, which were allegedly intended for distribution to voters.
The action followed complaints that some DMK functionaries were going door-to-door offering gift coupons and promising cash prizes, groceries and household items after victory in exchange for votes.
During the seizure, a few DMK members reportedly argued with the officials, leading to brief tension in the area. Tamil Nadu Assembly elections are scheduled to be held on April 23, with candidates including former minister Anbazhagan (AIADMK), Senthil Kumar (DMK), Bhoopathi (Naam Tamilar Katchi) and Gopi (TAVEK) contesting in Palacode.
