Manivasan on Friday evening assumed charge as the Home Secretary of Tamil Nadu, officials said.

The change comes as the state heads into the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections scheduled for April 23, with the Model Code of Conduct currently in force.

In this context, the Election Commission ordered the transfer of outgoing Home Secretary Dheeraj Kumar as part of measures aimed at ensuring a fair election process. Manivasan was appointed in his place.

The report also noted that earlier, the Chief Secretary Muruganandam, the Director General of Police (DGP) of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption wing David Devasirvatham, and the Tamil Nadu DGP had been changed.
