Kolkata: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said people in West Bengal are ready to bring about a major change, as the state heads into the Assembly election.

Speaking at a public meeting in Purba Bardhaman, Modi said the large turnout at the rally reflected the public mood. He described the gathering as a “trailer” of the results expected on May 4, and said the enthusiasm and determination of voters showed the state’s readiness for change.

The Prime Minister also referred to recently concluded elections in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry, noting that voter participation was high and that many women had cast their votes. He praised the Election Commission for conducting the polls peacefully.

Citing earlier elections in Bihar, Maharashtra and Haryana, Modi claimed that where turnout was high and women voted in large numbers, the BJP-led alliance won with a majority. He said the BJP is committed to taking West Bengal to new heights of development.

Modi further alleged that the Trinamool Congress’ “ruthless rule” had created fear, and said his guarantee was to turn that fear into hope.
