A Tamil daily report claims that harsh remarks once made by DMK leaders and stage speakers against former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj are resurfacing on social media and going viral.
According to the report, during the 1960s and 1970s, DMK speakers repeatedly mocked Kamaraj’s education and portrayed him as unfit for a modern era. It says the criticism also included personal attacks on his appearance, family background and private life, and that he was labelled during the Hindi agitation period as a “North Indian agent”, “Hindi supporter” and “Delhi’s slave”.
The report further alleges that rumours were spread in rural areas to damage Kamaraj’s image, including claims that he secretly drank beer despite being known as a teetotaller. It also notes that in 1971, DMK leader M. Karunanidhi criticised Kamaraj’s politics, using a phrase that mocked him as an “old man” in politics.
It adds that even in 2025, DMK MP Tiruchi Siva’s comments about Kamaraj’s simplicity sparked controversy. The report argues that while the DMK now praises Kamaraj and remains in alliance with the Congress, critics are circulating old speeches and cartoons from DMK-aligned publications to accuse the party of double standards.
