Candidates announced by the Ramadoss camp will contest the election using six different symbols, as a common symbol was not allotted for all 35 nominees. The symbols include cylinder, pressure cooker and green chilli, among others.
PMK leader Anbumani has joined the AIADMK alliance and is contesting in 18 constituencies. Ramadoss, who has tied up with Sasikala’s All India Revolutionary Leader People’s Progress Kazhagam, has fielded candidates in 35 constituencies under the name All India Democratic Protection Kazhagam.
In about 30 constituencies—including Dharmapuri (where Anbumani’s wife Sowmiya is contesting), Salem West, Vikravandi, Kattumannarkoil, Vriddhachalam, Polur, Jayankondam, Senji and Keezhvelur—Ramadoss-backed candidates will use the cylinder symbol.
Other symbols allotted to the camp include watermelon in Sholingur, green chilli in Anaikattu, cricket bat in Tirunelveli, baby walker in Paramathi Velur, and pressure cooker in Dindigul Athoor.
Of the 18 seats where the PMK is contesting, Ramadoss had initially announced candidates in 11. However, in Tiruporur, Ramadoss-side candidate Porchezhiyan withdrew his nomination, and in Uthiramerur the nomination was rejected—leaving Ramadoss to face Anbumani head-on in nine constituencies.
