TVK leader Vijay visited Karaikudi in Sivaganga district on Thursday to campaign for the party’s candidate Prabhu. However, as the allotted time for public address had already ended, he limited his outreach to a roadshow and left without speaking.
Vijay began his journey from Madurai airport around 10.30 am in a campaign vehicle and toured through Karaikudi town. Supporters welcomed him along the route, carrying the party’s ‘whistle’ symbol. Prabhu presented him with a picture of Pillaiyarpatti Karpaga Vinayagar.
At the Kovilur four-road junction, party workers offered him a ‘vel’, and a mysterious object reportedly fell on his head. Near the Income Tax stop, Vijay briefly rode a bicycle on College Road before returning to the vehicle, where he was caught in a crowd. Plainclothes police monitored the area to prevent objects from being thrown.
Vijay reached the designated campaign venue at 2.34 pm, after the permitted window of 12.00 pm to 2.30 pm had passed. He paid respects at the Muthuramalinga Thevar statue, waved to the crowd for a few minutes from the vehicle, and then departed towards Tiruchy.
Police said extensive security arrangements were in place, with around 850 personnel deployed under the Sivaganga SP’s leadership. Prabhu later stated that Vijay did not speak because he arrived late and the authorised time had elapsed.
