Veteran singer Asha Bhosle (92) passed away on April 12 in Mumbai, according to reports. She had been receiving treatment at Breach Candy Hospital after being admitted due to health complications.

Doctors were providing intensive care as she was said to be suffering from lung-related problems and chest pain. However, she did not respond to treatment and died on Sunday.

Born in 1933 in Sangli, Maharashtra, Bhosle was the younger sister of late singer Lata Mangeshkar. Over a career spanning more than seven decades, she sang thousands of songs in multiple languages, including Hindi and Tamil.

She received major honours including the Dadasaheb Phalke Award and the Padma Vibhushan, and won the National Award twice. In Tamil cinema, she is remembered for songs such as “Shenbagame… Shenbagame” from the film Enga Ooru Pattukkaran.

Condolences have been pouring in from various quarters following her demise.
