New Delhi: The Union government has condemned China’s move to assign new names to certain locations in Arunachal Pradesh, reiterating that the northeastern state is an integral part of India.

China has repeatedly laid claim to Arunachal Pradesh, and the issue has periodically triggered tensions between the two countries. Relations deteriorated sharply after the 2020 clash near the Galwan Valley in Ladakh, though subsequent rounds of talks led to some improvement.

Against this backdrop, China has now announced fresh names for some places in Arunachal Pradesh. Responding to the development, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the renaming amounted to “fake” labels and was strongly condemnable.

He stressed that India will never accept China’s claims over Arunachal Pradesh and said such “cheap attempts” cannot alter India’s borders. Jaiswal also warned that the step could obstruct efforts to restore normal relations and urged China to stop actions that could harm bilateral ties.
