Tensions within the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) have intensified, with founder S. Ramadoss and his son Anbumani Ramadoss sending sharply different signals to the party cadre. While Ramadoss has publicly expressed anger and issued a series of warnings, Anbumani has continued to speak in a deferential and affectionate tone.
According to the developments described, Ramadoss alleges that Anbumani submitted documents to the Election Commission without his knowledge and effectively took control of the party. After learning of it, Ramadoss reacted strongly—announcing steps such as removing Anbumani from the party, appointing a new functionary in his place, and stating that Anbumani should not use his name going forward.
In contrast, Anbumani has avoided speaking disrespectfully about his father and has repeatedly referred to him as “Ayya.” He has claimed that people around Ramadoss are misleading him and has portrayed his father as kind-hearted, saying wrong information is sometimes conveyed to him. Anbumani has also said their relationship is beyond politics and that, as a son, protecting his father is his duty.
Ramadoss, however, has continued his criticism, alleging he is being kept confined at the Thailapuram estate and that Anbumani makes decisions unilaterally. He has also accused Anbumani of not questioning office-bearers who do not work and of weakening the party in the name of accommodating everyone.
During election campaigning in Salem, Ramadoss reportedly fainted, after which Anbumani issued a warning that he would not spare those around his father if anything happened to him. Ramadoss supporters, meanwhile, have questioned why Anbumani—despite expressing such affection—took control of the party and chose to form alliances and contest separately, adding to confusion among PMK workers.
