BJP’s former Tamil Nadu state president K Annamalai on Monday said the ongoing election should not be framed as a contest between Delhi and Tamil Nadu, as Chief Minister M K Stalin often claims. Instead, he described it as a fight between “Gopalapuram’s corrupt forces” and the people of Tamil Nadu.

Speaking after arriving at Madurai airport, Annamalai alleged that the DMK government had sent an incorrect project report for the Madurai Metro. He claimed the report sought a dedicated road lane for buses rather than a Metro rail project, and said a Union government letter had noted that the state had not sought a Metro for Madurai.

He further accused two Madurai-based ministers of spreading false propaganda about the Metro proposal. If the state had genuinely requested a Metro, he said, the DMK government should publish the letter it sent to the Centre, adding that the state has not yet clarified the Union government’s communication.

Annamalai said that if the BJP comes to power in Tamil Nadu, it would prepare a fresh project report citing population details and secure the Madurai Metro project. He also questioned the DMK’s claims on paddy incentive payments, and criticised the Chief Minister for focusing on the IPL despite what he called multiple issues in the state.

Commenting on the political climate, he said the contest in Tamil Nadu has turned into a two-front battle, with DMK cadres working hard but anti-incumbency growing. He also said actor Vijay should be granted permission to campaign and be provided security, and urged young voters to think carefully before casting their votes.
