AIADMK candidate Amman Arjunan on Monday submitted a complaint to Coimbatore District Election Officer Pavan Kumar, alleging that people in the Coimbatore South Assembly constituency were being gathered in makeshift sheds and influenced with promises linked to coupons.
Speaking after filing the complaint, Arjunan claimed that sheds had been set up across divisions in Coimbatore, including in the South and North constituencies. He alleged that people were being kept there to prevent them from attending AIADMK campaign activities.
He further alleged that voters were being shown coupons promising goods worth ₹8,000 if the DMK returned to power, and that signatures were being collected on forms. Arjunan said cases had been registered in connection with coupon distribution and demanded that the sheds be shut.
In his petition, he named specific locations in Ram Nagar (Ward 67) on Vivekananda Road, near K.M.C.H City Center hospital, and alleged that local DMK functionaries and others distributed coupons to women residents and obtained written undertakings. He also alleged police pressure on the wife of a complainant, while stating that the Collector had assured action.
