Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has been meeting representatives of industry and trade associations in cities including Coimbatore and Madurai to mobilise support for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Tamil Nadu.

Goyal, who is serving as the BJP’s election in-charge for the state, arrived in Chennai on April 3 after seat-sharing among alliance partners was finalised. He has since been camping in Tamil Nadu and holding a series of interactions with sectoral stakeholders.

On April 10, he held discussions with industrialists and professionals in Coimbatore. He later joined NDA candidates contesting from Erode to campaign among traders and seek votes.

He also interacted with textile and other industry representatives in Tiruppur, and met office-bearers of the Tamil Nadu trade and industry association in Madurai. During these meetings, he spoke about Central government initiatives and benefits for various sectors, and urged voters to back the NDA, stressing the need for a “double-engine” government for the state’s development.
