Tehran: Iran has issued an unusual warning to the United States using what it called a mathematical “formula”, after US President Donald Trump announced restrictions on ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the report, the Iran–US talks ended without an agreement. Following this, Trump said ships of any country would be barred from using the Hormuz route, stating the move was aimed at preventing Iran from collecting fees from vessels passing through the strait.
In response, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf posted on social media, sharing an image of petrol prices at a station near the White House. He wrote that Americans should “enjoy” current fuel prices, suggesting they would miss today’s rates once the restrictions take effect.
Ghalibaf also shared a “formula” outlining possible consequences if disruptions occur in the Strait of Hormuz: an initial rise in oil prices, followed by higher freight costs, increases in food prices and a surge in inflation. Economists cited in the report noted that Ghalibaf’s engineering background may explain the technical style of the warning.
