Chennai: TVK president and actor Vijay is reportedly planning a return to films to offset losses linked to his movie Janayagan, which was illegally leaked online last week.

After launching his party, Vijay acted in Janayagan and had announced it would be his final film. The film’s audio launch was held on a grand scale in Malaysia, but a censor-related issue prevented its planned Pongal release.

With the matter moving through court, the release was repeatedly delayed. The film was later re-censored as per a court order. However, with election model code of conduct in force and Vijay contesting the polls, the Election Commission did not grant permission for the release.

The illegal online leak has reportedly caused major losses to the production company and the OTT platform. Since Vijay’s aide Jagadish is also a co-producer, Vijay’s side is said to have been affected as well.

Sources in TVK say discussions were held at Vijay’s residence, and a view emerged that the party would need significant funds to run and to cover the losses. Party circles add that a pooja for Vijay’s next film could take place within a week or two after the election results are announced.
