Chennai: Jose Charles Martin, son of lottery businessman Martin and leader of the Lakshiya Jananayaka Katchi, has questioned Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin over an alleged Rs 500 crore donation received by the DMK in 2014.

In an interview, Jose Charles Martin referred to Udhayanidhi’s campaign remark that if Leema Rose—his mother and the BJP alliance candidate in Lalgudi—wins, lottery ticket sales would resume in Tamil Nadu. He said the statement reflected a lack of understanding, noting that lottery ticket sales are currently banned in the state.

He alleged that the same DMK government which now opposes lottery sales had accepted a Rs 500 crore donation from them in 2014. He claimed his side has documents related to the donation and demanded that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin and Udhayanidhi explain why the money was received and how it was used.

Jose Charles Martin also made broader allegations about the DMK’s finances during its five-year rule, and criticised asset declarations made by Stalin and Udhayanidhi in their nomination papers.
