Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday appealed to all political parties to extend support for the implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act, which provides 33% reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

Addressing a gathering in Dehradun after inaugurating a green corridor, Modi said there should be no delay in rolling out the law and that it must be implemented in 2029. He noted that the legislation was passed after many years and had received backing from all parties at the time.

The Prime Minister said a special session of Parliament is scheduled to begin on April 16 to take forward the work related to the measure. He added that he has written a letter to the country’s “sisters” and reiterated his request from Uttarakhand for cross-party support for the amendment linked to the women’s reservation law.

In the same address, Modi called for the Uniform Civil Code to be implemented across the country, describing it as the expectation of the Constitution and citing Uttarakhand as a guide for the nation. He also spoke about social justice and urged efforts to keep pilgrimage areas clean ahead of next year’s Kumbh Mela in Haridwar.
