TVK leader Vijay is scheduled to hold an election campaign meeting at Perumanallur in Tiruppur district at around 4 pm on Tuesday. Ahead of this, there was public expectation that he would also address people at Karumathampatti near Coimbatore.
However, city and district police in Coimbatore said they have not received any prior permission request from the party so far. With no application submitted, police indicated there is little chance of a campaign programme being held in Coimbatore.
Officials noted that permission for public events must be obtained at least 48 hours in advance. While Vijay’s convoy from the Coimbatore airport may pass through Karumathampatti and could slow down briefly, sources said there will be no public address.
Many residents who had gathered hoping to see Vijay and listen to his speech were left disappointed. The development comes amid a keen contest between AIADMK and DMK candidates in the Coimbatore constituency, with political circles reportedly viewing TVK’s prospects as limited.
Coimbatore, known for its industrial base and large middle-class voter segment, is considered a place where direct campaigning can matter. The absence of a planned stop has also triggered questions about the strength of the party’s local organisation.
