Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin said he met a beneficiary of the Kanavu Illam scheme during his morning campaign in the K V Kuppam constituency, visiting her home after accepting her invitation.

In a statement, Stalin said the woman is also receiving Rs 1,000 per month under the women’s rights scheme. He added that she told him her children benefit from the school breakfast programme.

Stalin said he asked her what she would buy with the Rs 8,000 coupon meant for homemakers. He remarked that discussions about what household item to buy and where to buy it have already begun in families across the state, even ahead of the 2026 election.

He stressed that the decision should be entirely up to women, describing them as the heads of households. Linking it to the 2026 vote, he said women should be the ones who “win” in these household discussions as well.
