Washington: US President Donald Trump has issued a fresh warning aimed at China, saying a 50% tariff would be imposed if China—or any other country—is found supplying military equipment to Iran.

The warning comes as peace talks with Iran have reportedly failed. Trump also urged China to stop buying crude oil from Iran and instead purchase oil from the United States.

According to Trump, China can send its ships to the US or to Venezuela under US control for its crude needs. He claimed the US has surplus oil production and is ready to supply crude to China at a lower price than Iran.

Reports cited in the source say China has been purchasing Iranian crude, and that information suggesting China may provide shoulder-fired anti-aircraft missiles to Iran prompted Trump’s warning.
