A controversy has erupted in Valapady, which falls under the Yercaud Assembly constituency, after allegations that a DMK Member of Parliament distributed Rs 8,000 coupons to voters during campaigning.
According to the report, on Sunday night in the Valapady Town Panchayat area of Salem district, Kallakurichi DMK MP Malaiyarasan canvassed door-to-door seeking votes in support of DMK candidate Revathi for the Yercaud constituency. DMK Valapady town secretary Selvam was also present.
During the visits, the MP allegedly handed a coupon worth Rs 8,000 to voters in each house. He reportedly told residents that once the DMK wins the upcoming Assembly election and M.K. Stalin becomes Chief Minister, they could use the coupon to purchase household items worth Rs 8,000.
A video purportedly showing DMK workers distributing what are being described as “fake coupons” across homes has since gone viral, triggering criticism and adding to the political row in the area.
