Coimbatore North BJP candidate and sitting MLA Vanathi Srinivasan, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Coimbatore due to ill health, has said voters will deliver a strong message in the election.
In an interview, she said AIADMK-BJP alliance workers have continued door-to-door campaigning despite her being in hospital, which she described as encouraging. She added that voters have been telling her to focus on recovery and assuring her of their support.
Srinivasan said she plans to do more work for Coimbatore North than she did for Coimbatore South, and asserted that her long association with the city and work across the district would prevent any electoral setback. She also claimed she would win with a larger vote margin than in Coimbatore South.
On BJP leader K. Annamalai campaigning in the heat, she said he visited her in the intensive care unit and reassured her that he would handle the campaign, asking her only to greet voters after recovery. She said he has already campaigned at four locations in the constituency and would continue.
Responding to talk about a “germ” spreading in Coimbatore, she said people would not allow it and would “send it back to Karur” after teaching an appropriate lesson, drawing a parallel to the message delivered to actor Kamal Haasan in the previous Assembly election. She added that actor Kasthuri and BJP leader Khushbu have campaigned for her, and that Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is scheduled to campaign on April 17.
