A DMK public meeting is scheduled in Salem on Tuesday, with several alliance leaders expected to take part. While there was talk of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi joining the event, he will not be present, according to local DMK functionaries.
DMK president M.K. Stalin was earlier slated to attend the programme at Seelanaickenpatti. The venue has since been shifted to the Salem Fort Ground.
DMK representatives submitted requests for permission and obtained approvals from the constituency election officer and the Salem Town Police on Monday.
In a statement, Salem DMK district secretaries said a women’s rally will begin from Anna Park under Stalin’s leadership and conclude at the meeting venue. Makkal Needhi Maiam leader Kamal Haasan and DMDK general secretary Premalatha are expected to participate.
The statement added that the rally will culminate at the ground where the public meeting will be held, and Stalin will address the gathering after introducing the DMK alliance candidates.
