The Madras High Court has directed the Income Tax Department to file a report in a petition seeking an inquiry into the asset details mentioned in Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s election affidavit.
The petition was filed by Kumaravel of the Chepauk–Thiruvallikeni constituency. He alleged inconsistencies between the asset disclosures made in Udhayanidhi’s 2021 nomination and the current election affidavit.
According to the petitioner, the 2021 affidavit mentioned an investment of Rs 7.36 crore in Red Giant Movies, but the current affidavit does not carry details of the same. He also pointed to the disclosure that Udhayanidhi’s wife has stated an investment of Rs 2.63 crore in the company, and claimed the affidavit lacks proper explanations regarding these transactions.
The petition further cited changes in a loan amount to Snow Housing—stated as Rs 11.6 crore earlier and Rs 10 crore now—and questioned whether the remaining Rs 1.6 crore was repaid. It also flagged a rise in declared income from Rs 2.02 crore (before 2020) to Rs 10.98 crore, alleging the increase was not adequately explained.
A bench comprising Chief Justice Dharmaadhikari and Justice Arulmurugan heard the matter and ordered the Income Tax Department to submit its report. The case was posted for further hearing on April 20.
