Salem district education authorities have issued a notice seeking an explanation from the Chief Educational Officer (CEO) over allegations linked to malpractice during the Plus Two public examination at a private matriculation higher secondary school in Muthampatti.

The incident is said to have occurred on March 17 during the Mathematics exam. Students from the school reportedly made frequent trips to the restroom, prompting the chief invigilator—Sriram, headmaster of a government school in Mettupatti—to check the area.

According to the complaint, he found two teachers from the same school speaking on mobile phones and noticed that answers linked to a leaked question paper had been pasted inside the restroom. He later submitted a written complaint that evening to the District Chief Educational Officer, Maheswari.

Subsequently, allegations surfaced that the matter was not informed to the School Education Department’s monitoring officer and that the CEO was negotiating with the private school to suppress the issue. Following media reports on April 9, Kuppusamy, Director of the Directorate of Non-formal and Adult Education and the district examination monitoring officer for Salem, sent a notice to Maheswari seeking an explanation.
