Seeman questions TVK’s stance
Pudukkottai: Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) coordinator Seeman on Tuesday questioned why TVK did not field a candidate in the Edappadi Assembly constituency, even as actor-politician Vijay has spoken of a direct contest between TVK and the DMK.
Speaking to reporters, Seeman said the BJP-led Union government was attempting to reduce the number of Lok Sabha constituencies in Tamil Nadu. He argued that parliamentary constituencies should not be determined purely on the basis of population.
He also questioned what connection women’s reservation has with constituency delimitation. Seeman said the idea that men’s representation should not reduce even after providing reservation to women reflects a patriarchal mindset, and criticised the view that women’s reservation would be offered only if constituencies are increased.
Turning back to TVK’s political positioning, Seeman asked why Vijay did not campaign in constituencies where the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and BJP functionaries were contesting, and said Vijay was instead focusing on Karaikudi. Seeman added that he was not “for Karaikudi alone” but for the Tamil people as a whole, and said he was fighting to win the country.
